The Old City of Chiang Mai is a gem. Before I could even picture a perfect holiday of mine, Chiang Mai has presented itself and be the one. I was a little confused at first as I kept on comparing this little square to Luang Prabang or even Seminyak, Bali.
But in its true colors, Chiang Mai is a beautiful mix of those together. The laid back cafes sprawling across the complex side with souvenir shops and massage parlours, like being in Ubud Monkey Forest Road except it was quieter and friendlier to walk through, just like in Luang Prabang. December weather in Chiang Mai is around 28 degrees in the day and about 15 degrees at night. So so nice.
Beautiful shining golden stupas and shrines will greet you at every turn and really, strolling around the Old City is not easy because there’s always something for you to stop and look at.
My really short time here tells me that anyone going to Chiang Mai should at least spend a week 🙂 However, since we only booked this holiday pretty last minute, the time was tight and so was the budget, we missed out on a couple of things and will happily use these as a reason to come back. More post to come…
